Who Are The Southern Queens?
We are a champion team striving to be the best that we can be. Our goal is to always be better than yesterday, lead by example, and wear our crown with honor.

About Us.
The Southern Queens Dance Team is a dance team made for young girls to express their love and passion for dance. Our dance company was created in 2015 by Director James Young after a small summer dance camp known as "J-Jam," which he later formed into The Southern Queens Dance Team. His vision was to create a safe place for young girls to build their confidence, embrace their girl power, show their love for dance, network, and build their brand. Girls are taught respect, class, and discipline, which will carry them far in life. Southern Queens is not just any ordinary dance organization; it is also an organization that builds the strengths of the mind to create role models and young leaders.

The Minis
The Minis are the smallest division of our dance company. Their ages start at five years old and vary to eight years of age. This is the best time to grow a dancer because you get to shape and mold them into the amazing dancer they are destined to be. Also, they are super cute. Everyone loves to see the minis.

Jr Varsity
The Juniors are our second division of the team. Their ages vary from 8 years old to 12 years old. They are the heart of the team and are always hungry to win. The girls normally work harder than everyone else in this age range because they have a point to prove. They don’t like to be labeled as small or “a mini” anymore, so they work harder to show they are just as great as the Varsity team.

Varsity
The Varsity Division consists of teenagers ages 12–18. They are the backbone of the team and the division that performs the most. The varsity team gets the most recognition because they are the most experienced and understand the importance of the performance. They are the dancers we prepare for self-branding and collegiate development.

The Cape
The cape is a representation of “power," the strength of a superwoman. Capes are mostly worn during parade season or in competition intros.

The Nancy Boot
The Nancy Boot is a traditional majorette shoe that we cherish deeply. Not only is it a traditional boot, it adds that special value to our aesthetic. We mostly wear the Nancy boots in parades, ramp intros, and HBCU stands.
